Improving Foot Health

So, the weather is getting warmer. How can you best improve your foot health?

  • Wear Proper Footwear – As the temperature rises, wearing the right footwear is one of the best ways to keep your feet healthy. Avoid high heels and flip-flops and opt for shoes with more support.

  • Avoid walking barefoot – If you’re going to be in public places this spring and summer, avoid walking barefoot to prevent cuts, plantar warts, and athlete’s foot.

  • Use Suncare – Your feet need sun protection too! Apply sunscreen on your feet, between your toes, and on your ankles to avoid sunburn and prevent skin cancer, as it can be easy to overlook and miss on this area of the body.

Tips to Maintain Healthy Feet

  • Inspect your feet regularly and pay attention to changes in color, texture, or appearance.

  • Maintain good foot hygiene, including washing and drying between the toes.

  • Keep Skin Hydrated. Warmer temperatures, an increase in humidity and open shoes can cause rapid loss of moisture from the skin and may result in cracking or the formation of fissures. It is helpful to replace the moisture content by using lotions or creams on a regular basis.

Visiting With a Podiatrist

The sooner you seek podiatric treatment, the better the outcome. Untreated foot problems can negatively impact your overall health, so being proactive about your foot health is crucial to avoid long-term complications.
